Is Acupuncture Safe?

In the hands of a conscientious practitioner who is properly trained and qualified, yes. Licensed Acupuncturists have been educated and to have a thorough understanding of human anatomy, and can properly insert needles in a safe fashion.

Many patients are concerned of the risks of infectious diseases relating to the use of needles during acupuncture treatment. In 1996 US FDA approved acupuncture needles for licensed practitioners. FDA requires that the needles be sterile, nontoxic, and disposed of after a single use. Practitioners are well aware of these health threats and take every measure necessary to insure cleanliness and sanitation, as all health care professionals do.
